Review: How To Build A Girl
Beanie Feldstein seems to be cornering the market on teenage coming-of-age stories. She first appeared in the best friend role in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird alongside Saoirse Ronan and then moving closer to the spotlight in Olivia Wilde’s hit Booksmart alongside Kaitlyn Dever, but in How To Build A Girl she lands squarely in the lead role. The film is loosely based on a true story about a high school student in a small English town who becomes a rock music critic.
Though Feldsetin has an endearing quality, a combination of lackluster writing and a character that ultimately lacks any meaningful development, this movie didn’t land as well as her other projects where she played the innocent teen trying to find her place in the world.
